My wife came up with this interesting idea

She likes to paint in watercolor, draw in colored pencil, and dye bath objects; fabrics using different kinds of techniques. She has decided she would like to try a technique or two, using a dye bath with the dye color denim, on some of my white nylon cording. She says "too bad I can't go outside during the processes of dye bathings, and throw the cording at the big tree that sits in front of our place. To get that old jean jacket look." "I shall have to try a watercolorist trick, using an old tooth brush and a deeper shade of the dye bath instead!"

The trick is accomplished by dipping the brush into the deep colored dye bath, and flicking with one finger on different spots of the fabric. It works best with the wet in wet technique. The darker dye will spread leaving behind interesting blotches of pigment. Depending on where you aim, you will have a whole overall effect, or just in small chosen areas.

She wishes to know if anyone has had sucess with this technique, on nylon paracord? - Mary Phillips Brzys - Artist

So yes my wife used several techniques on the cording, to create a unique pattern. Which in fact turns out to be quite a few colors, patterns throughout the cording. We both like the effects on how it came out. Better than just striving for the blue jean effect. Note - the image here was shot late in the afternoon on Saturday, April, 21, 2012.
